“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”
Psalm 8:3-4 NIV
It’s hard to believe that a God so great that He creates the Earth and all that’s in it, would think of me. It’s hard to believe that the minute details of my life would be a concern to Him in all His glory. It’s almost impossible to fathom that a God so big and powerful would want to spend time with a simple, foolish person who continues to sin against Him.
But, He does. His nature, which is relational and intimate, is not dependant on our behaviour, performance, status or success. He formed you in your mother’s womb and from that very moment has been interested in every part of you.
Like any relationship, the key to building a strong, healthy relationship with God, is dependant on understanding what He is like. His voice, can be lost among the impressions you have built up of Him, before you ever knew Him. If you’ve come from a religious background, these perceptions of God can be somewhat misconstrued.
God is love and so His voice is the voice of love. Many people ask “how do you know if it’s Gods voice speaking to you or not?” Well, the first thoughts you can start to filter out are words that go against His nature of love.
If that voice sounds abusive or tears you down- it’s not God. If it makes you fearful, it’s not of God. If it allows you to believe that you can’t do it, it’s not of God.
God is for you, He’s not against you. Read His word and compare what you’re hearing to what He already has said. If they don’t line up, then ignore those thoughts. Getting into God’s word will help you to confirm the voice of God because He is consistent and the same yesterday, today and forever.
Go on the journey of discovering His voice, because He is the Good Sheperd and we are His sheep. He will not lead us astray but always show us the way to better and brighter places. The more you’re obedient to His voice, the easier it will be to discern if it’s Him or not. Just step out and step into greater levels of intimacy with the loving Saviour- Jesus Christ.
