“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV
We’re all connected. Our soul, body and mind are connected (were holistic beings) and we’re connected to the family, community and society around us (were relational beings). Holistic healing requires that we work on our mental, physical and spiritual well-being as well as strengthening our ability to relate to others and connect on different levels.
Jesus wants all of your heart, but sometimes in giving Him our heart, we have to expose it to others. We need to create or step into safe spaces that allow us to process the pain and hurt that’s been inflicted on us by other people or by the circumstances we have faced.
Jesus died for relationship. That’s how important it is to Him. He doesn’t just want us to have relationship with Him but He desires that we be in relationship with others.
Others who can build us up, not tear us down. Others who we can build up and invest into.
Others who see the best in us and draw it out. Others who remind us of why we have been through what we’ve been through so that we can use those experiences to help them navigate the season they are going through.
Jesus said we are to be salt and light. Well salt and light are only useful when they’re applied to something. Within the context of this metaphor, Jesus is encouraging us to apply those elements to people. Having authentic relationships allows us an opportunity be salt, preserving people through seasons of hardship, and light, helping to draw them out of the darkness.
We can’t ever live a fulfilled life in isolation. We were created for relationship. Two are better than one. Five are better than one! Getting yourself into spaces where you can open your heart in professional counseling or/and connecting yourself into a supportive community, will grow you, support you and free you to be who you were created to be.
Lord Jesus, we thank you for people. We thank you that you designed us to live better when we get alongside great people who help us to be who you want us to be. Help me to find my people- and help me to be the person others need me to be. As I open my heart to others, remind me that you are with me and that you’re in this journey through the people I come into contact with. I release myself from shame and receive all of your grace in this season. In Jesus name we pray. Amen
